The Android build toolchain has a number of unique components and I often find others, and myself, blaming Gradle for something that might not actually be Gradle's fault at all. However, I also think much of this frustration and complaint is unwarranted, or at the very least, misplaced. I've often enjoyed a laugh at Gradle's expense, or laughed and nodded along as coworkers shared their own harrowing stories of lengthy or broken builds. But, given that even cross-platform solutions have some level of dependency on the Gradle build tooling for Android, it's likely you'll find yourself waiting on a Gradle build at some point if you're building an Android app.
